Cats is an IGT slot built around big cats, and it is one of the company’s well-known casino floor games. The demo on this page is the standard online version with 5 reels and 30 paylines. It is free to play here on play-money credits, with nothing to download.
The idea that sets Cats apart is the split symbol. Each cat can appear alone or as a pair in a single square, and a pair counts as two symbols. That makes it possible to line up as many as ten matching cats on a five-reel line. Paw print symbols on the middle reels lead to the free spins.

How Cats Works
The reels are 5 columns by 3 rows with 30 paylines. A payline is a fixed path across the reels, and wins pay from left to right starting at reel 1. You can bet as little as 0.01 credits per line. The top bet depends on where you play, and sources list anything from 150 credits per spin upward.
Each cat symbol comes in two forms on every reel: a single cat or a double. Wins are counted by the number of cats on the line, not the number of squares. Five double symbols in a row therefore count as ten of a kind, which is the best result for that cat. The Cats logo is the wild and replaces everything except the paw print scatter.
The RTP, the share of all bets a slot pays back over time, is published as 93.04% by some sources and 94.93% by others. Casinos can often pick between settings. Volatility, meaning how often and how big the game pays, is rated medium, so expect a fairly even mix of small and mid-sized wins.
Cats Bonus Features
Split Symbols
Any cat can land as a double symbol showing two cats. A double counts as two matching symbols in a win, so a line can hold between 3 and 10 of a kind. The pay table lists a prize for each count.
Paw Print Scatters
Paw prints appear only on reels 2, 3 and 4, and they also come as singles and doubles. Four paw prints in view pay 2 times your total bet. Five or six start the free spins.
Free Spins Bonus
Five paw prints award 5 free spins, and six paw prints award 10. The round uses a richer set of reels with more of the higher-paying cat symbols. Spins are played at the bet and lines of the triggering spin.
Wild Symbol
The Cats logo substitutes for every symbol except the paw print to complete a line. It cannot stand in for the paw print scatter, so it does not help you reach the free spins.
More Cats Versions to Play Free
The other Cats games here are separate IGT releases that use the same big cats. Fort Knox Cats belongs to IGT’s Fort Knox series, which adds a Fort Knox bonus with jackpot prizes. Cats MegaJackpots is tied to a progressive jackpot. Money Mania Cats, Cats Split ‘n’ Win and Diamond Spins Cats are further versions with features of their own. Their pay tables and RTP settings are not the same as the original.
Good to Know Before You Play
- Count cats, not squares. Three squares in a row can be anything from three to six of a kind, depending on how many are doubles.
- The free spins award is small, at 5 or 10 spins. The better reels in the round are what give it its value.
- Paw prints never land on reels 1 or 5, so only the three middle reels matter for the bonus.
- Published RTP figures for Cats differ by more than a point and a half between sources. Check the help screen where you play.

Cats FAQ
Can I play Cats slots for free?
Yes. The Cats demo on this page uses play-money credits. There is no download and no sign-up. You can play as long as you want, but the credits have no cash value and cannot be cashed out.
What is the RTP of the Cats slot?
Sources list either 93.04% or 94.93%, which suggests the game ships with more than one setting. RTP is the share of all bets paid back over a very long time. The help screen shows the figure in use.
How do you trigger the bonus in Cats?
Land five or six paw prints on reels 2, 3 and 4 in one spin. Paw prints can be single or double, which is how three reels can show six. Five paw prints give 5 free spins and six give 10.
What are split symbols in Cats?
A split symbol shows two cats in one square and counts as two symbols. Because of this, five squares on a payline can hold up to ten matching cats, and the game pays for 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 of a kind.
