Medusa is a Greek myth slot first released under the NextGen Gaming name and now offered by Light & Wonder. The demo on this page is the original Medusa, the game that later led to Medusa 2, Medusa Megaways and Medusa High & Mighty. It is free to play here on play-money credits, with no download and no sign-up.
The game is plainer than its sequels, but it fits four separate features into 25 paylines. Medusa herself is the wild. Three of her on the middle reels turn those reels to stone for respins with tripled wins. The logo starts the free games, a soldier adds Super Spins at five times the pay, and three Pegasus symbols open a pick-a-prize bonus.

How Medusa Works
Medusa has 5 reels, 3 rows and 25 paylines. A payline is a path across the reels, and matching symbols on it from the left pay a prize. With all lines covered, bets start at 0.25 credits and go up to about 50 per spin. The top line prize is 5,000 credits. You set the bet with the controls under the reels before you spin.
Medusa is the wild. She appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and replaces every symbol except the logo and Pegasus. The Medusa logo is a scatter, which means it pays from any position. Two or more logos pay a prize, and three or more start the free games. Pegasus is a second scatter that lands on reels 2, 3 and 4.
The RTP, the share of all bets a slot pays back over time, is 95.42%. Volatility, which is how often and how big a game pays, sits between medium and high. The larger prizes come from the features, where wins are multiplied. Respin wins are tripled, and Super Spin wins are multiplied by 5.
Medusa Bonus Features
Turned to Stone Re-spins
Land Medusa on reels 2, 3 and 4 in the same spin. You get 3 respins. One of the middle reels becomes a full expanded wild and stays locked, and every win during the respins is tripled. This feature cannot be retriggered.
Once Bitten Bonus (free games)
Three or more Medusa logo scatters anywhere on the screen award 10 free games. During them, a soldier symbol is added to reel 3. Three more logos during the round add another 10 free games.
Super Spins
Each time the soldier lands on reel 3 in the free games, he awards up to 3 Super Spins. These are saved and played after the free games finish, and every prize in a Super Spin is multiplied by 5.
Pegasus Bonus
Three Pegasus symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 start a pick game. Choose one Pegasus to reveal a prize of up to 50 times the triggering bet. You may also reveal a second pick or win all three prizes.
More Medusa Versions to Play Free
Medusa 2 moves to 243 ways to win, with locked reels, stacked wilds and 10 free games, and lists an RTP of 97.07%. Medusa Megaways changes the number of symbols on each spin for more than 117,000 ways to win. Medusa High & Mighty, released in 2023, has 5 reels that grow from 4 to 8 rows and an RTP of 96.02%. All three are newer takes on the same theme.
Good to Know Before You Play
- The wild Medusa never lands on reels 1 or 5, so the first symbol of every line win has to be a regular symbol.
- The Turned to Stone respins cannot be retriggered, but the free games can. Three more logos add 10 more games.
- This page also lists three later Medusa games. They share the theme but use different reels and rules, so the notes here apply to the original only.
- Sources list the top bet a little differently. The demo may allow a bet somewhat above 50 credits per spin.

Medusa FAQ
Can I play Medusa for free?
Yes. The demo on this page runs on play-money credits. There is nothing to download and no sign-up. The credits have no cash value and cannot be cashed out, so you can try the game and its features without spending anything.
What is the RTP of Medusa?
The original Medusa has a published RTP of 95.42%. RTP is the share of all bets a slot pays back over a very long run of spins. It is a long-term average and does not predict what happens in a single session.
How do you trigger the bonus in Medusa?
Three or more Medusa logo scatters anywhere start 10 free games. Medusa wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4 together start the Turned to Stone respins. Three Pegasus symbols on the same three reels start the pick bonus.
What are Super Spins in Medusa?
Super Spins are extra spins won during the free games. A soldier symbol on reel 3 awards up to 3 each time he lands. They are played once the free games end, and every win in a Super Spin is multiplied by 5.
