Jack and the Beanstalk is a NetEnt slot from 2011 based on the fairy tale. It is an online game and has never been a casino floor machine. The demo on this page is the standard version and plays with free credits. More than a decade after its release, it is still one of NetEnt’s best-known titles.
The feature everyone remembers is the Walking Wild. Each wild that lands gives you a free respin and steps one reel to the left, and it keeps doing that until it leaves the screen. Wins that include a wild are tripled. In the free spins, collecting keys upgrades the wilds into bigger and bigger versions.

How Jack and the Beanstalk Works
The game has five reels, three rows and 20 fixed paylines that pay from left to right. Bets run from 0.20 to 100 per spin, and the minimum bet covers every line. The symbols are characters and objects from the fairy tale. The treasure chest is the scatter, and three of them start the free spins.
When a wild lands anywhere, the spin pays and then you get a respin at no cost. On the respin the wild moves one reel to the left. This repeats, with a new free respin each time, until the wild has stepped off reel 1. Any win that uses a wild is paid at three times the normal amount. New wilds can land during the respins and start walking too.
The RTP is 96.28%. RTP is the share of all bets a slot pays back over a very long time. Volatility is rated high. Volatility describes how often and how big a slot pays, and a high rating means long quiet spells broken up by larger wins. Much of this game’s value sits in the free spins.
Jack and the Beanstalk Bonus Features
Walking Wilds
Every wild awards a free respin and shifts one reel to the left each time, disappearing after the respin on reel 1. Wins with a wild are tripled. Walking Wilds are active in both the main game and the free spins.
Free Spins
Three treasure chest scatters anywhere on the reels award 10 free spins. Landing three or more scatters again during the round adds more free spins. Walking Wilds and their free respins keep working throughout.
Treasure Collection
Keys appear on reel 5 during free spins. After 3 keys, the next wilds are money bags stacked two high. After 6 keys, they become golden hens stacked three high. After 9 keys, each new wild is a golden harp that expands to cover its whole reel.
Good to Know Before You Play
- Respins from Walking Wilds are free. You do not pay again while a wild is still walking across the reels.
- Keys only appear on reel 5 and only during the free spins. They are what upgrade your wilds.
- This is a high volatility game. Long runs of small wins are normal, and a play-money balance can swing a lot.
- All 20 paylines are fixed, so the minimum bet of 0.20 covers every line at one cent each.
